Explore the basic concepts of applied skills through hands-on practice and project construction. Self-paced learning is supported by on-line tutorials (www.swcelectronics.com). This class is an excellent preparation for further courses in electronics, technical studies, and the career preparation program in electronics. Grade nine students can enroll in Electronics 10.
Objectives
You will:- Work safely
- Learn how to operate a fire extinguisher
- Memorize the International Phonetic Alphabet for emergency use
- Develop a technical vocabulary
- Identify hand tools and power tools by name (skill builder online at our website)
- Construct your own nine-volt electronic project, the winker-blinker
- Build your own woodwork project, pine plaque mounted on a base
- Prepare the wood by sanding with 80, 120 and 220 grit sandpaper
- Chamfer and raise the grain
- Measure and accurately lay out
- Drill and countersink the pine base and the LED mounting holes
- Secure the base to the panel with woodscrews
- Select or create a design for the plaque
- Paint the design on a pine panel
- Solder electronic components: light emitting diodes, capacitors, resistors, and transistors
- Use a digital multimeter to read voltage and test for continuity
- Troubleshoot the electronic project to make it work properly
Requirements
Each student brings these items to every clas:.- Three-ring binder containing notes and information sheets
- Pencil, eraser and pen
Three-month class
AThis three-month class is an excellent preparation for further courses in electronics, technical studies, and the career preparation program in electronics. Grade nine students can enroll in Electronics 10.
Evaluation
Your attendance, courtesy, and effort will be considered during evaluation. Cooperate closely with other members of the class. Help them when you can. However, avoid providing too much help. We learn best when we are challenged. You are responsible for identifying which class work you have missed. Any missed work must be made up.
